Some interesting bbc news articles out there today. A teen gets fired for calling her work boring on Facebook, Ryanair is thinking of having people pay to use their in-flight toilets, and my favorite- the discovery of a new (“new”) species of fish called psychadelica. I came across some other interesting fish on the National Geographic website that are too bizarre not to share.

Enter the Histiophryne psychedelica, discovered in Indonesia in January ’08.
“Each time the fish strike the seabed, for instance, they push off with their fins and expel water from tiny gill openings to jet themselves forward. That and an off-centered tail cause them to bounce around in a bizarre, chaotic manner.”
Weird. Looks like Tie-dye.. (link)
Ok, onto the next one.

This is the frilled shark. yikers.
nuf said.

This picture was released in february of this year but was taken in 2004 (??!)This is the Opisthoproctus soleatus
The barreleye or spookfish lives more than 600 meters under the ocean floor..
“The transparent-headed fish spends much of its time motionless, eyes upward, MBARI scientists discovered while watching the barreleye fish from a remotely operated vehicle.
The green lens atop each of the fish’s eyes filters out what little sunlight makes it down from the surface, allowing the fish to focus on the bioluminescence of small jellies or other prey passing overhead.”
THE BLOB!!!

This one may be a little less believable since it’s not from National Geographic.. It’s called a mud-puppy. Still odd.. but cute!

Please save me from the frilled shark attack. I prefer NO frills. Such a horror flick.

The Mud-Puppy is real. It is a salamander… and yes, cute too.

Actually, that’s not a mudpuppy, though it is similar.
That little baby is called an axolotl, and I assure you, it is very real.
